Visual artists working in all genres inclusive of new and traditional media are invited to create a landmark public art work at the Dargan Entrance to Belfast Harbour Estate in the Vicinity of Dargan Road, Seal Road and Dargan Drive.

Budget

The budget for this commission is £100,000.00 and is to include;

• Artists Fees (including site visits, shortlisted proposal fees)
• Fabrication and installation of the artwork; including costs for site preparation
• Transportation Costs
• Insurance Costs

The proposed site is the general area of the Dargan Road, Seal Road and Dargan Drive within the Belfast Harbour Estate.  Dargan Road forms the principle arterial route on the Northern side of Belfast Harbour, linking the Harbour Estate to the motorway network (M1/M3/M5) via the Fortwilliam roundabout.

 

The area of the Harbour accessed by Dargan Road predominantly accommodates the container and ferry sectors, supported by the recent completion of the £35m Stena VT4 Terminal and the 11.5 acre Belfast Container Terminal at this location.  In addition, Dargan Road services the general estate including office developments, light industrial units and warehousing facilities in this area.

Belfast Harbour recently completed a £3.2m investment at Dargan Road whereby a 1000m section of the Road has been upgraded from a 2 lane road to a 4 lane carriageway.  The works included a number of junction improvements, including the junction with Seal Road and Dargan Drive.

 Belfast Harbour Commissioners funded the entire project.  The new road will serve to create a seamless link for a more efficient transfer of Port and Harbour Estate traffic to and from the motorway network.

 Belfast Harbour Commissioners wish to commission a Public Artwork to be located on the area adjacent to the Dargan Road, Seal Road and Dargan Drive.

 The site currently has a public seating area bordered on either side by a levelled grass area.

The public seated area sits on top of the culvert which allows the tide to ebb and flow.
